There are several transportation options once you arrive in Nicaragua. In the dry season (Nov. - May), you can often get by with a taxi or shuttle to the Tola area. In the rainy season (June - Oct.), a 4wd vehicle is recommended. Nicaragua has all the major rent-a-car companies at MGA International and reservations can be made in advance, online or upon arrival. If you decide to drive on your own, please be aware that Nicaragua has regular police checkpoints. If you prefer not to drive, we can arrange private transportation for you and your group. We operate a fleet of vans and 4wd vehicles which will can accommodate airport transfers and daily trips.

Groceries and Restaurants

Food options are limited in Tola. There are no grocery stores, so you should stock up with food in Managua or Rivas. However, there are several restaurants worth checking out. In between Hacienda Iguana and Rancho Santana is a great local place called Isabelle's. Food includes chicken, steak and fish dishes cooked local style with sides of veggies, rice and beans - true local fare. Between Rancho Santana and Popoyo is a small town called Limon. Limon is home to one of the best area restaurants - Yolanda's. Yolanda's is owned by one of the nicest local families in Limon and features large portions of fresh local fare (chicken/fish/steak/rice/beans/veggies) at budget prices. Other places worth checking out are Rana Roja (Red Frog) Pizza and El Toro in Popoyo.
